Happy 1st Birthday Issy!

It has come round so fast... Isabelles 1st birthday! This Tinkerbell cake was made for her big birthday party. I bought the topper rather than make one as this doubles as a keepsake for her present. The sponge cake was covered with lilac fondant and decorated with coloured flowers and beads. Finished with some pretty ribbon, Isabelle candles and a big number 1 on the front its perfect for a fairy princess!

So long, farewell...

This cake was made for Colin the courier who is leaving, so the lovely people at SGN had a whip round for this cake! I thought it was a nice idea to say goodbye in various languages (whichI'm hoping are all correct, if not blame google!)

Gloss-tastic!

It doesn't get more snazzy than this... a big shiny lipgloss for the one and only lipgloss queen herself, Mrs Nancy Hester! I couldn't think of anything more appropriate to make for her birthday cake. Lush lemon cake and covered in sparkly pink fondant, its a near on perfect replica of her favourite lipgloss tube! Happy Birthday Bear! xxx

Ruby Wedding

This pretty cake was made for a Ruby wedding anniversary. I made a triple layer red velvet cake with vanilla frosting and decorated this with crisp white fondant & little red flowers. I painted these with an edible red shimmer to give then a bit of sparkle and added gold balls to highlight a few. I managed to pipe the lettering rather sucessfully, I must say I was quite proud of myself. A fabulous cake to celebrate 40 fabulous years!

Super Trooper

Arguably one of my best cakes so far. I made this Lego Stormtrooper for a friends son, and when I heard he loved Lego AND Star Wars I knew I could create something awesome for his 9th birthday. I had so much fun making this cake and managed not to swear or stress out! Aside from a few creases and wobbly bits he's almost perfect (maybe after another 2 or 3 I'll have the lego man down to a T!) Vanilla sponge with jam filling and cream, hand carved to shape then covered & decorated. I used a new brand of black fondant (M&B from cakestuff.com) and its so much easier to work with, not sticky like the Renshaw, so my decoration was spot on here. My new FMM ribbon cutter helped enormously to get the clean, straight lines (best £8 I ever spent!) and I nervously hand painted the pattern. The wording in the Star Wars font really finishes the cake off. It came out better than I imagined. May the force be with you...

Red Devil

Devil indeed, I really didn't like this cake, I totally bodged up the black piping! However I was informed that the birthday boy liked it and thats the main thing. Must practice piping...

Girly Handbag

I was asked to make a handbag for a friend at work, her daughters 17th was on the horizon. We discussed colours & themes for the cake and being a girly girl I thought she'd like the nail polish, purse & beads. The cake itself was purple velvet, a colour variation on the red velvet recipe although it didn't entirely work and ended up just looking like a light chocolate cake. Tasted yummy none the less. I covered this in lilac fondant and decorated with a pocket and flowers. I finally sussed how to use my stitching tool so I could add realistic detail to the bag. The nail polish pots were fondant and I had the idea of writing the message in the polish, this looked really good. I made a beaded bracelet with a heart charm and a purse, using gold smarties for the coins. Very happy with the end result. I've now been commisioned for her sons cake in April!
