Christmas 2012

Here's some more cakes from Christmas this year. I made 3 mini cakes, perfect for individual gifts. Next was a remake of my 2010 polar bear christmas cake. In just 2 years my modelling skills have improved dramatically! And finally, another set of vintage Christmas cupcakes. These were a prize in my works raffle.

Lime & Purple Opulence

These may be my all time favourite set of cupcakes. I love the colours, the quilting, the flowers, the frames... Ella and I made these on our cake decorating weekend. We had so much fun and I am looking forward to making these again in some different colourways, I think hot pink & black would look great!!

Lemon & Duck Egg pretties

My sister & I made these cakes using the candy stripe guide from Carina's cupcakes. They look fab and I'm very proud of my big sisters first attempt at sugarpaste decoration

Christmas Cupcakes 2012

Here are my Christmas cupcakes for this year. A Buttermint snowflake, Santa baby dresses, mini gingerbread house and my Christmas opulence collection with gilded picture frames, holly & festive flowers.

The Princess & the Pea

This is my entry into the SGN Children In Need bake off competition. I won :-) And the cake was auctioned off with all proceeds going to the charity. This years theme was fairytales & nursery rhymes so I decided to make a Princess & the Pea cake. A tall pile of matresses with a little pea hidden underneath!

Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween!! These iced cookies are chocolate orange flavour, recipe from my biscuiteers book which I have been meaning to bake from for ages! They were really tasty, a bit like an orangy bourbon biscuit. I used royal icing to decorate in a spooky fashion!

Gingerbread Cupcakes

These deliciously spicy gingerbread cupcakes are sooooo scrummy, they are definitely going to be in my Christmas collection this year. A much lighter sponge than last years attempt and they have a totally gorgeous lemon cream cheese frosting. I topped these with my Mickey sprinkles I bought in Florida, been dying to use them! I'm getting really excited about christmas cakes, I have plans to make my mince pie cupcakes again (oh brandy buttercream frosting, how I love you!), these were a roaring success last year! I also have a recipe for egg nog cupcakes which sound amazing! Plus I'm hoping to make a giant christmas cupcake, if it turns out how I imagine it in my head it will be fabulous!!

Bananaaaaaaaa!

Oh my... this is a contender for favourite cake EVER!!! I love this so much I was a little bit sad to see them go! Five mini minions for a Despicable Me fan. I love how each one is different, their little faces are adorable, all huddled round a fondant banana!

Winnie the Pooh Giant Cupcake

My first giant cupcake! I've been dying to make one since I got the tin so when I was asked to make a Winnie the Pooh cake I thought it'd be ideal. Super cute for a 1st birthday! The figures & honeypots are made from sugarpaste. I had to make Winnie the Pooh 3 times to get it right! I think he looked great! I covered the base with peachy pink fondant & the top with sweet buttercream rose swirls. I can'y wait to make another!

Peaches & Cream

These peachy cupcakes were decorated using a fabulous guide I purchased from Carinas Cupcakes. She is one truly talented lady!! This is the candy stripe collection, I have tweaked some designs & made my own set. I loooove the lace and the stripes.

Boobies!!

What a pair!! These boobies were for a 21st birthday. I used my new dome shaped tins to get a perfect shape

Disney Princess Cupcakes

It was Frans pre Florida hen party last night and I decided to make cupcakes (like I need an excuse!) It seemed only right to make an array of Disney princesses as she will be a Disney princess bride in just over a week!! I decided to make flat toppers so I could make them ahead of time, I think if I made them again I'd try to do dome tops. Really happy with them though, came out just as I imagined.

Pretty at 60

My favourite set of cupcakes, I really love them. These were for my mother-in-laws 60th birthday. Light lemon sponges with fondant dome tops and beautiful decorations. Frilly carnations, hand rolled pearls and heart cabochons... heaven

Iggle Piggle

This is the first of 2 Iggle Piggle cakes this week! A giant number one (hand cut, no shaped tins here!) with bright polka dots and a little Iggle Piggle sat at the top. I love the coloured balls around the cake (all hand rolled!) they really finish it off well.

Lemon Lace

I had the afternoon off work today so I came home & I made these little beauties, I'm so happy with them :-) I got my Sugarveil mat today so I HAD to use it straight away! I just embossed these dome tops, I'm yet to try the actual Sugarveil mix and Carinas Cupcakes fabulous Sugarveil-less technique. I made a beautiful carnation using a tutorial from Nylah's via Facebook. She is fabulous and makes the most spectactular cakes. She kindly shared her method of making perfect carnations and it turned out really well, I'll be making lots more of these in the future! I practiced my dome tops here and I'm getting better! They look much neater than last time. I love this set, very weddingy!

Cute as a button

This week I treated myself to some lovely button moulds from Carinas Cupcakes. I was so excited when they arrived I squidged some sugarpaste straight in them and made these cuties! The cakes were vanilla with orange flavoured frosting. I think I'll be using these mould alot, I love them!

Wicked

Wicked is the story of two witches and how one became good and one.... wicked. Brook looooooooves the musical so it made sense to make her Wicked themed cupcakes. Glinda's 'good witch' cakes were topped with pink fondant domes and sparkly wand, tiara, shoe & bubbles. Elphaba's 'bad witch' cakes were green fondant tops with witches hat, broom, Grimmerie (spellbook) and sparkly stars.

Peppa Pig number two!

Here is my 2nd Peppa Pig cake, larger than the last one & made in ridiculous humidity so it was really tricky to cover! You cannot see on the pics but I added a lustre dust to the dress & glitter flakes on the wings so she was shimmery & sparkly!
